Christmas time in Mexico is a solemn and joyous event. The festive ritual of las posadas is a re-enactment of the Holy Family's search for lodging. Children carry candles in paper lanterns through the village. When the innkeeper invites the weary travelers in, the festivities break forth. There is prayer, punch and cookies and the breaking of the candy and nut-filled pinatas. San Nicolas joins the parade, bringing the much loved pinata. From his belt dangles traditional Mexican ornaments, the God's Eye, clay figures and musical instruments. 11" high.
