Portly gentlemen often find it difficult to get their bulging bodies astride a horse and need the assistance of mounting steps. Ladies in similar circumstances resorted to the steps as well, but they did not have to exert themselves as much as they rode side saddle. The steps also made a convenient place to leave the churns full of creamy fresh milk for the waggoner to load onto his cart. This piece is one of a series of 12 Miniature Cameos. It makes a nice addition to any of Davids houses or goes on a brightly colored Diorama. Hand-made and hand-painted in the Studios and Workshops of John Hine, Great Britain.
