The Point Betsie lighthouse was built by the U.S. government in 1858, and was automated in 1983. Ships entering and exiting the Manitou Passage use it as a navigational marker. This lighthouse is listed in the National Register of Historic Places, and is one of the most visited attractions in Benzie County, Michigan.
