First lit in 1848, in 1849 the keeper's dwelling burned to the ground. The lighthouse tower and dwelling were totally rebuilt in 1857 because the dwelling and tower had suffered severe cracks due to being built with the rock along the shoreline. The harsh weather was too much for them to handle. The lighthouse tower rebuilt in 1857 is still in existence today and serves as a museum. *Spoontiques is a highly desired line of collectible lighthouse, popular with collectors. This is due to the attention to detail and historical accuracy where ever possible.
