The Mary McLeod Bethune Council House is the Club piece for 1999. Mary McLeod Bethune rose from humble beginnings to prominence as an advocate for young people and the rights of African-American women. She served as an advisor to President Roosevelt on minority affairs and represented African-Americans at the conference that established the United Nations. Her townhouse served as the headquarters for the National Council of Negro Women which she founded. The Mary McLeod Bethune house is located in Washington, D. C.
