Introduced in April, 1996 and retired in December, 2001, item # 1964, the "Lemuel Burr House"; one of the pieces of the Galveston Series. In the mid 1800's, Galveston was known as the "Oueen City" of Texas and prospered as the major port of trade for the state. On September 8, 1900, a hurricane and tidal-wave created one of the most deadly disasters in U.S. history. Houston took over as the port city of Texas and Galveston slowly started rebuilding. This beautiful house was built by Burr, a wholesale grocer. Burr sold the home to his employer Julius Kauffman, Jr. for $11,500.
