The "John Muir Home", fourth in a series of four. Item #8-4 was introduced in January 1999 and retired December 1999. John Muir's home is in Martinez, California. John Muir was born in Dunbar, Scotland in 1849. Muir's passion for nature blossomed while he was surrounded by America's pristine wilderness. He was so enchanted by the natural world that he founded the Sierra Club in 1892, and had a direct hand in establishing several national parks. It was in the study of this 17-room Victorian home where he wrote many of his articles and books on preservation. Today, Muir's home is open to the public.
