Charles Dickens wrote, in 1843, that part of the Christmas Carol story where the Ghost of Christmas Yet To Come takes Scrooge through the streets of London: "They left the busy scene, and went into an obscure part of the town, where Scrooge had never penetrated before although he recognised its situation, and its bad repute. The ways were foul and narrow; the shops and houses wretched; the people half naked, drunken, slipshod, ugly" This is the introduction to "Old Joe's Beetling Shop - A Veritable Den of Iniquity!" and is enough to send a cold shiver of foreboding down your spine! This piece was hand-made, and hand-painted in Hampshire, Great Britain. Actual size 4 3/4" x 8".
