Potting Shed tradition of Dedham Pottery
Hugh Robertson, a fifth generation potter, opened The Dedham Pottery Company in 1896 in Dedham, Massachusetts. The rabbit became the identifying signature of Dedham pottery and remains so today. Pieces of Dedham pottery are in such prestigious institutions as the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, Massachusetts and the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C.
The Potting Shed makes its pottery in the tradition of The Dedham Pottery by using a painstaking, multi-step process. Each piece is individually molded, shaped, painted, glazed, fired, and finished by skilled artisans. Slight variations in shape, color and design are hallmarks not found in machine-made pottery and are characteristic of the touch of the individual artists.
