Frank W. Woolworth opened the first store in 1879 with a strategy of a 5 cent bargin table. His vision became the reality of a worldwide department store chain covering 5 countries and 1500 cities. With over 2100 stores, Woolworth's became the hub of everyday shopping. At Christmas time, stores were adorned with wreaths and bows and holiday bargains lined the floor.
